Invisalign® in Fond du Lac

Trusted, Clear, and Convenient

For patients who need orthodontic correction but are looking for a discreet, convenient option that is less noticeable than traditional metal braces, Invisalign clear aligners, sometimes referred to as clear braces, are an excellent alternative. The series of removable, clear trays gently moves teeth into their new positions while providing convenience and versatility for individuals with busy lives.

How Invisalign® Works

Invisalign clear braces are a series of plastic aligner trays that fit snugly over the teeth, allowing for discreet and comfortable treatment. Each set of aligners exerts gentle pressure on the teeth, gradually moving them into their proper positions. Every few weeks, the patient switches to a new set of aligners that move the teeth closer to their final goal, eliminating the need for frequent adjustments to the braces.

Key to the success of Invisalign is wearing the clear aligners 20 to 22 hours a day, removing them only to eat, brush, and floss. You can also remove them for a special occasion, such as a job interview, prom, wedding, or photo session, but you should replace them immediately after to ensure your treatment progresses properly.

Is Invisalign® Right for Me?

Invisalign is an excellent choice for straightening your teeth if your orthodontic issues are mild to moderate and you are looking for a discreet option that most people will not notice. However, compliance is crucial to the success of clear aligners. You must commit to wearing them for 20-22 hours every day and keeping them clean and fresh. Invisalign may be right for you if you are willing to wear them every day, take them out only for short periods, and care for them properly. Many patients also appreciate the quick correction Invisalign offers, which is often faster than that of metal braces, particularly for mild misalignments.

Why patients choose Invisalign:

  • Virtually invisible and comfortable
  • No need to change your diet or avoid any foods
  • Easy to remove for meals and hygiene
  • Great for spacing, crowding, and bite correction
  • Ideal for active, social, or professional lifestyles

Our Invisalign® Process

  1. Consultation and planning: We start by taking digital scans or impressions of your teeth, along with photos and X-rays. This allows us to create a 3D model of your bite and map out a step-by-step plan of how your teeth will move.
  2. Custom aligners: Based on that plan, a series of aligners is made just for you. Each set is slightly different, guiding your teeth little by little toward the desired alignment.
  3. Wearing the aligners: You will typically wear each set for about one to two weeks, for 20 to 22 hours a day. You will only take them out for eating, drinking anything other than water, brushing, and flossing.
  4. Check-ins: We will meet every six to eight weeks to review your progress. (With metal braces, we typically schedule appointments every two weeks.)
  5. Completion and retention: Once treatment is finished, Dr. Twohig may recommend a retainer to keep the teeth in their new positions.

Invisalign® FAQs

How long does Invisalign take?

It can take anywhere from 10 months to two years, depending on the amount of correction needed and how quickly your teeth and jawbone respond to the clear braces.

How much does Invisalign cost?

The cost of Invisalign is typically comparable to that of traditional braces. While you do need multiple aligner trays, you do have as many appointments for adjustments. There are many variables to consider, and the best way to get an accurate price is by scheduling a consultation with Dr. Twohig.

How do I care for my Invisalign® clear aligners?

Brush your clear braces with a soft-bristle toothbrush using either a non-abrasive toothpaste or liquid hand soap to keep them clean. If you remove them for a meal and you do not have access to brushing, be sure to rinse them thoroughly in cool or warm (never hot) water before putting them back in your mouth.

Does Invisalign hurt?

When you switch to a new set of clear aligners, you may feel some mild discomfort due to the slight change in pressure on your teeth. This typically lasts only a day or two.
