Retention

When we remove your braces, we will begin the retention stage of your treatment. Your final orthodontic result depends on your retainers, so follow through with the hard work you’ve put in so far. Remember to remove your retainer before brushing, and brush your retainer before placing it back in your mouth.

Removable Retainers

Retainers are made for both the upper and lower arch. There are several types of removable retainers and Dr. Twohig will prescribe the type that is correct for you. You must be very careful when handling your retainers, as they are costly to replace. You are given a special case for your retainers; please make sure you keep them in this case when not wearing them. Proper care instructions will be given for your specific type of retainers when you receive them.

Your retainers should be worn exactly as Dr. Twohig instructs you to wear them. Often this means putting them in your mouth in the evening and removing them in the morning when you wake up.
